Ragtime play hardcopy12/6/2023 Sometimes I also hit the wrong chord, but more often it's the bass notes. Another difficult part is that I can't always watch my left hand, because I'm watching my right hand or looking at sheet music, so sometimes I have to "feel" where the right key is or what the right distance to jump is, and that. I try to make sure that my hand is relaxed, and it helps a lot, but I simply can't aim accurately enough when I'm having to jump almost an entire octave (sometimes more) between beats. No matter what I do, I often end up hitting the adjacent keys, or catching another finger on one of the black keys, or something, and it just makes the playing sound messy. I want to play more, but there's one thing that really puts me off playing ragtime: I can't hit the bass notes cleanly. Sometimes it's all I play, sometimes I hardly ever play it. Ragtime is a style that I play on-and-off really.
